With marshmallows, tiny Hershey’s chunks, teddy grahams, and caramel bits, S’mores Trail Mix is the perfect treat with a mug of hot cocoa. Our movie nights have never been better!

If you’ve been following us for long, you already know that Olivia and I are pretty serious about trail mix! We test each different combination to find the perfect ratio of ingredients. That’s why we’re happy to add this recipe to the list, alongside candy corn trail mix and all the others.
S’mores Trail Mix
I am calling this a 10 out of 10. It has caramel and chocolate and ALL the sweet things. There’s a little bit of crunch with the teddy graham crackers. And, the marshmallows are chewy. But, my favorite is the caramel!
The best part of making this was cutting up the Hershey bars. I got to use the knife! And, I got to measure the ingredients and test them together. I liked this mix with caramel the best, and dad agreed that we should do it that way.

Ingredients & Substitutions
Grahams – We used Teddy Graham crackers for this recipe. Graham cracker pieces will work in a pinch, but they do crumble more.
Marshmallows – We used mini marshmallows for this trail mix.
Chocolate – We knew we would use Hershey’s bars, since that’s what regular s’mores are made with. But, we also wanted to minimize prep. So, this mix uses half Hershey’s and half chocolate chips.
Caramel – Olivia suggested caramel bits, and I was skeptical. But, these take s’mores trail mix right over the top. We liked it so much, caramel is going to start making it into our regular s’mores!

How to Make S’mores Trail Mix
Prepping the Ingredients – We chop the Hershey’s bars into chunks that are roughly the same size as the other ingredients.
Combining the Ingredients – We prefer to use our kitchen scale when measuring the ingredients into a big bowl. This saves us the trouble of washing the measuring cups.
Mixing and Serving – We give the ingredients a toss, then transfer to a serving bowl or airtight storage container.
Dad’s Tip
One of the trickiest parts of this particular trail mix is managing the chocolate. Hershey’s chocolate is essential for that classic flavor, but it also wants to melt and smear just as soon as you touch it. I chill the Hershey’s bars before cutting them. And, I keep a watchful eye when serving this to those with little fingers.
Match Sizes – I try to keep all the ingredients close to the same size so that they mix together evenly.
Taste First – I sample the ingredient ratios with a test bite before measuring them into the bowl. If anything is not exactly how I want it, then I adapt the mix to my taste.

Make Ahead & Storage
Make Ahead: All trail mix is a make ahead snack! It’s perfect for mixing ahead of time, so that it’s ready to snack when you are.
Storing: We store trail mix in an airtight container, so that nothing dries out or loses its desired texture. We have never had leftovers last longer than a week, but it keeps that long, at least.

Frequently Asked Questions
I prefer the mix of Hershey’s bars and chocolate chips. But, if I’m taking this out of the house, I’ll just make it with chocolate chips to try to avoid melting.
I made it to closely resemble the flavors of the classic fireside treat. You can add some salty ingredients to balance the flavors, but I would not call it s’mores.
I actually know the answer to this one! Chocolate chips are formulated in a way to stabilize them in the oven. That’s why they can melt and still retain their shape on top of my cookies. Practically speaking, this also makes them a little slower to melt when I grab a handful of them to snack on.
