Chocolate Mug Cake

What would you rate this recipe?

9/10. It was really good and I liked it a lot. It’s not the best chocolate cake I’ve ever had, but it was quick and easy to make.

How would you describe the flavors and experience of eating this dish with someone who has never tasted it before?

The cake was very moist and fluffy. The whipped cream balanced out the chocolate. We made homemade whipped cream, and it was not as sweet as Redi whip. The Reese’s chips and the peanut butter drizzle are a must have.

What part of making this dish did you enjoy the most, and why? Watching it rise in the microwave. I do love whisking. That’s always my favorite part of any recipe. I love whisks. But, it was so cool to watch the cake puff up so fast.

The mug cake when it comes out of the microwave reminds me of trypophobia, though. It’s got a lot of holes in it.

Did you feel like you learned anything while making it?

I tried to make a mug cake once before on my own, and it didn’t turn out. So, now I know how to actually make one.

If we made it again, what would you want to do differently next time?

Maybe add some different variety and toppings. This was a very good recipe. I would want a scoop of vanilla ice cream, for sure. And, you could also use sprinkles, or other candy, depending on what toppings you like.

Dad’s Notes:

This is such an easy and quick dessert. I strongly recommend using something like this chocolate mug cake to introduce your kids to the wide world of baking.

I can’t remember the first time I made one of these, but my niece Sophia made me one a couple years ago and I knew I’d have to share the recipe with Olivia.

I’m an adult, and I still think have to control my inner Dr. Frankenstein while watching this go around in the microwave. Rise! RISE! RIIIIISE!

Olivia might prefer Redi whip, but homemade whipped cream is absolutely divine. Seriously, try it. You won’t regret it.
