Ingredients

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

Method

  1. Whisk together the flour and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Then, add the milk and whisk until combined. Reduce heat once the mixture starts steaming. Do not let it boil.
  2. Continue whisking frequently for the next few minutes until the sauce begins to thicken. Remove pan from the heat, then add the butter and vanilla and stir to combine. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools. Serve immediately, with fresh grated nutmeg on top.
