How to Make Taco Meat

My sister taught me how to make taco meat like this years ago. Generously seasoned ground beef, black beans and corn are incredible any way you use them.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 14.5 oz black beans (canned)
  • 14.5 oz corn (canned)
  • 3 tbsp taco seasoning (storebought or homemade below)
Homemade Taco Seasoning
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper

Method

  1. Set a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, then crumble it with a wooden spoon. Season with store-bought or homemade taco seasoning, and stir to incorporate throughout.
  2. Strain and rinse the canned beans and corn. When the meat is finished cooking (all the pink is gone), add the beans and corn to the pan. Stir thoroughly to coat everything well.

Notes

I am a lazy... er, efficient cook. So, I use taco seasoning from the store most of the time. But, sometimes we run out and I don't notice. So, I'm including the spices I use in a pinch. Maybe I'm a barbarian, but I also just use the same measuring spoon for all of them, going down the list in the given order.
